Measures of Central Tendency:  Numerical values used to describe the overall clustering of data in a set, or the overall "average" of a set of data. The three most common measures of central tendency are the mean, median, and mode.

Suppose we have the following test scores from two mathematics classes:

Class 1: 85, 90, 78, 54, 88, 76, 83, 99, 49, 93, 76, 90, 78, 55, 89, 76, 65, 81, 89, 91

Class 2: 76, 80, 59, 89, 92, 68, 55, 77, 98, 95, 80, 90, 96, 80, 78, 65, 77, 92, 89, 60

What if we want to compare the two classes on the math test? We need a way to compare the classes as a whole rather than considering individual scores. Measures of central tendency could help in this situation.

For example, we might want to compute the mean, median, and mode of the given data.
