 Description  
 Parabola:  The graph of a quadratic or second-degree equation.

The shape of a parabola resembles the letter U and can face either up, down, left, or right. The following figures are examples of parabolas.

Figure F

The lowest point on a graph is called the Minimum while the highest point on a graph is called the Maximum. The minimum point for the graph in Figure A is (0,0). The maximum point for the graph in Figure B is (0, 3).

Some graphs do not have minimums or maximums. Graphs in Figures A, C and E do not have maximum points. The graph in Figure B does not have a minimum point. Graphs in Figures D and F have neither a maximum nor a mimimum.
