 Description  
 Population:  The entire set of items from which data can be selected.

When we decide what we want to study, the population is the set of all elements in which we are interested. It doesn't have to be people; it could be a set of objects.

Example Populations:

  • Every person in the United States
  • Every person in your math class
  • Every person in your school
  • All the M&Ms in a bag of M&Ms
  • All the M&Ms in the world
  • A whole pot of soup
  • All the blood in your body
