 Principal Square Root:  The nonnegative square root of a number.

For example:

The two square roots of 9 are 3 and -3 (since 3*3 = 9 and (-3)*(-3) = 9). But since 3 is the nonnegative square root of 9, 3 is called the principal square root of 9.
