 Description
Solution:  A number (or ordered pair of numbers, or set of numbers) that produces a true statement when substituted for the variable(s) in an equation or inequality.

For example:

Given the equation m + 5 = 8, m = 3 is the solution since 3 + 5 = 8.

Given the equation k2 = 36, k = 6 and k = -6 are the solutions since 62 = 36 and (-6)2 = 36.

Given the equation x + y = 12, (2,10), (4,8), and (7,5) are just some of the solutions in a whole set of solutions for this equation, since 2 + 10 = 12, and 4 + 8 = 12, and 7 + 5 = 12.
