Algebraic Expression:  A mathematical phrase involving at least one variable and sometimes numbers and operation symbols.
Algebraic expressions are used in spreadsheets to determine the amount of wages, billing, or value of an account. Spreadsheets are helpful because they can evaluate algebraic expressions pretty quickly.

For example, the equation w = 8.50h represents the wage, w, that an individual will receive for working h hours. In a spreadhseet, this would be entered as =8.50*B3, where B3 represents the cell that contains the number of hours worked. Each time a new number is entered into cell B3, the computation of the wages will instantly change.
