 Denominator:  The number below the line in a fraction. The denominator indicates what kind or size of parts the numerator counts.

The denominator of an expression is often represented by the number of pieces of food that is available. For instance, if a pizza is sliced into 8 equal pieces, then each person receiving one piece will have 1/8 of the pizza. Notice that the denominator is the number of pieces of pizza available to eat.
