Estimate:  A guess about the size, cost, or quality of something.
How many people are there on the bus? How many jelly beans are in the jar? How much money will you need to purchase a CD, video game, and tennis shoes at the mall? In all of these situations you use estimation to make a guess of what the actual number or price is. We use estimation mentally quite often to get a rough idea of the actual number without doing all the calculations.
