 Even Number:  A whole number that is divisible by 2. Sometimes all integers divisible by 2 are considered to be the even numbers. And occasionally, zero will not be considered an even number.
Pairs are always in even quantities. For example, a tennis tournament will have an even number of competitors that are playing doubles. If there are 13 doubles teams, then there are 26 players.

A pair of scissors has an even number of blades. If you have five pairs of scissors, then you have 10 blades.
