 Linear Equation:  An equation whose solution is a straight line.
If a child receives the same amount of money for an allowance each week, the total amount of money that they have received can be represented by a linear equation. For instance, if Billy's parents give him $20 initially and then $5 a week, the amount of money that he has received can be shown by the equation

20 + 5w

where w is the number of weeks that Billy has received money.
