 Pythagorean Theorem:  A theorem that states that in a right triangle, the square of the length of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the lengths of the legs.
Here is a picture of the great Greek mathematician Pythagoras. It is believed that the Babylonians knew and used the Pythagorean theorem 1300 years earlier than the time of Pythagoras. The theorem later came to be known as the Pythagorean theorem because Pythagoras may have supplied the first proof.
