Solution:  A number (or ordered pair of numbers, or set of numbers) that produces a true statement when substituted for the variable(s) in an equation or inequality.
In a crossword puzzle, the missing words act as the unknowns of the puzzle. To complete the crossword, one must find all the solutions. In mathematics, a number satisfying an equation or inequality serves as a solution. In both cases, the problem solver is searching for an unknown piece of the puzzle.

Words are used to fill in the solutions for a crossword puzzle.
