Frequency Distribution:  The organization of raw data in table form with classes and frequencies.
Code breakers (cryptologists) use frequency analysis to help crack simple substitution codes. The most common letter used in the English language is E. The next most common is T. The vowels O, A, and I are the next most common; then comes the letter N. The code breaker determines which letter in the cyphered text has the most occurrence (ie. Has the highest frequency) and then tries to substitute the letter E for its value.
This is called frequency analysis.
