Common Multiple:  A number that is a multiple of two or more numbers.
Suppose you are inviting a group of five friends to dinner that you plan to make yourself. This means that the number 6 is a common multiple that should be used with your recipes. If you find a recipe that serves two, and another recipe that serves three, then you will need to triple the first reciple and double the second reciple in order to make enough for 6 people in both recipes.
